Over 32 years ago my friend Clark asked me to lunch and told me this idea he had about starting his own mortgage company. We had been working together for some time and neither of us was feeling very good about what we were doing. He wanted to open a mortgage brokerage- which at the time was fairly new industry. He wanted to do loans for his friends and feel good about it when the loans closed. "Wow" I thought. What a concept!

In January of 1989, Mortgage Mart officially opened. I did not join Clark until after my daughter was born in February. I started by bringing her to work with me for the first four months (which was pretty exciting at times considering we had a very small office and Clark was not yet a father!). I worked as needed at first and was there to celebrate the first loan closing and often each phone call that came in. Although I had been in the business for a couple of years already, I learned more about loans in that very first year than I ever knew there was to know. I am always learning!

Things have changed tremendously over years! When we first started we typed forms and hand calculated the APR. We have always tried to keep the loan process simple by using fax or mail out packages complete with checklist to hopefully eliminate as much as we could of the now I need... We were one of the first small companies to invest in a mortgage software program! We get discounts on titles when we order online, we often need less documentation when we use automated underwriting, we get nearly instant credit reports, and we love to save you time and money!

 

 

We have kept our pricing very competitive with new technology, low overhead, and no extra fees. I shop on-line for rates every day and I am very pleased to with how we compare. Although on any given day someone will have a better rate, I do this everyday and know who will deliver. I understand the new loan products, new guidelines and ways to save you money!

I have been blessed over the last 32 years to meet and work with many of you and your friends, family, neighbors... on more than one occasion. I have seen many of you get married (sometimes more than once) and have children, get new jobs and new houses. I have enjoyed every (okay- almost every) moment and I look forward to many more years of working with you, and your friends, and your families, and your neighbors...
